Arcane Chess is a strategy game that layers a card-based spell system onto classical chess. Every few turns, each player draws a hand of magical cards - spells that can transform a pawn into a queen, teleport a knight across the board, summon a new bishop, taunt enemies into forced captures, or plant totems that reshape the battlefield. The core game is still chess: check, checkmate, castling, en passant, and promotion all work exactly as you expect. But the spell layer opens up dramatic, game-changing tactical windows that reward creative thinking.
Players log in, pick a time control (bullet, blitz, or rapid), and are matched with an opponent. Spells are granted at fixed turn intervals - Black gets their first hand on turn 4 and White on turn 5, giving Black a small compensation for moving second. Cards come in four rarities (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary), each with its own cooldown and power level, and side effects are intelligently balanced so every hand offers meaningful strategic choices rather than random swings.
